Upcoming ASETSDefense Workshops
ASETSDefense 2012: Sustainable Surface Engineering for Aerospace and Defense
Rancho Bernardo Inn
August 28-30, 2012
Following our successful Workshop in New Orleans last February, our 4th sesquiannual Workshop on Sustainable Surface Engineering for Aerospace and Defense will be held at the Rancho Bernardo Inn & Resort, San Diego, California August 28-30, 2012, with a possible focused side meeting on the afternoon of August 27.
Environmental and health regulations in the US and laws such as REACH in Europe are leading to the loss or restriction of an increasing number of chemicals that are currently being used in coatings and surface treatments applied to aerospace and defense systems and components. As a result, the need for alternatives that do not have environmental, safety, or occupational health (ESOH) issues, yet are able to match or exceed the performance of currently used materials, is becoming increasingly acute. This workshop will cover all aspects of alternative coatings and surface treatments, including:
- Chromate-free conversion and passivation
- Non-chromated, low VOC primers and paint systems
- Cadmium-free coatings on components, fasteners and electronics
- Chromate-free options for magnesium repair and finishing
- Testing, finishing, stripping and other processes
As in our prior workshops, the goal will be to foster the exchange of information between research organizations, chemical and coating formulators and manufacturers, aerospace/defense repair facilities, and weapons systems and aircraft manufacturers concerning options, performance, and implementation of all types of alternatives.
More details will follow in January on the conference arrangements, reservations, meeting topics, etc.
